I loved the cute tomato design and thought it would be worth a try.īut ARGH! The TICKING! It drives me insane! The whole purpose of buying this was to help me to focus on work for short bursts of time and remind me to take breaks. I bought this because I read about it as a way to help me to focus on tasks for a fixed amount of time and remember to take breaks. You can't easily miss the ring if it's in the same room as you. In terms of timing cooking, the ring is loud and lasts a reasonable amount of time, so would be perfect for this, or even letting kids know they have 10 minutes more to play before going out/getting ready for bed etc. That said, it's loud enough you couldn't use it in a room where anyone else was trying to work NOT using the Pomodoro Technique.
At first I found the ticking distracting but after a few pomodoros I found it gives a sort of background noise which somehow lets you know you're working etc and it's not too distracting it gives your mind something to focus on to ensure your mind doesn't wander off.
I bought this for the Pomodoro technique, which recommends using a timer with a loud tick given that the timer will sometimes stop if not properly wound the tick also gives you a clear signal when it's stopped going. Over all it's a good timer, but it is a little finnicky in getting it to ring- you have to make sure the timer makes an audible "click click click" sound as you wind it all the way around or else it has a tendency towards running out of wind at around the 10-5 minute mark and you have to reset it. The timer produces a loud tick throughout the timing.
